Elena Kampouris will make her Broadway debut in Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses this fall. The screen actress will take on the role of Cécile Volanges, joining a cast that includes Tony winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber. The Josie Rourke-helmed production, originally from London's Donmar Warehouse, will begin performances at the Booth Theatre on October 8.
Kampouris recently played the daughter opposite Nia Vardalos and John Corbett in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Her additional screen credits include American Odyssey, The Cobbler and Men, Women & Children. She will also appear in the upcoming film Before I Fall.
The dark comedy, based on the 1782 novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, followers lovers-turned-rivals La Marquise de Merteuil (McTeer) and Le Vicomte de Valmont (Schreiber) as they challenge each other to games of reputation-ruining seduction. Among their targets is the young convent girl Cécile (Kampouris), whose love for her music teacher is exploited to thwart her engagement.
As previously reported, the cast will also feature Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Madame de Tourvel and Mary Beth Peil as Madame de Rosemonde. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Les Liaisons Dangereuses will open officially on October 20. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through January 22, 2017.
